How to treat scars

Surgical treatment methods

1) Scar excision

To avoid being noticeable, the scar must be small and its direction should be the same as the direction of the skin line.
If the surgical suture line is in the same direction as the skin line, it heals well, and conversely, if the scar is placed at a right angle to the skin line, it takes longer to heal and the scar becomes more pronounced.
Scarring treatment through incisions should align or parallel the direction of the incision line to the skin line.

  • ①  Z-plasty

A surgical method that involves making a Z-shaped incision to change the position of surrounding tissues
  • ②  W-plasty

A surgical method that distributes the force of skin pulling by making a W-shaped incision
  • ③  Spindle resection

Surgical method of making an oval incision and suturing directly
  • ④  Complex microsuturing

A surgical method in which the lower muscle layer is slowly sutured in turn, the fat layer and the dermis layer are well collected, and then sutured using fine threads.
  • ⑤  Simple resection

A surgical method that removes scars as they are and precisely sutures them again between the surrounding skin layers.

    2) Tissue expansion

This surgery involves placing scar tissue under the normal tissue right next to it to cover the scar and make the scar invisible.
It is applied to extensive scars that are due to burns or trauma.

※ Other procedures include flap surgery, dermabrasion, and resection of the skin.

    3) Skin grafting

Skin grafting is a method of harvesting normal skin from another part of the body and transplanting it into the scar area.
It is mainly applied to deep or wide scars, and the key is to treat the grafted skin so that it can be well engrafted in the scar area. It is important to keep the scar area moisturized and not irritated while the grafted skin is well established and grows.
There are several methods of skin grafting for scar treatment, and each method is applied according to the patient's condition and scar morphology.

    Partial skin grafting

It is a method of removing part of the epidermis and dermis and transplanting, and the area where the skin is peeled off is called a partial skin graft, depending on the thickness.

    Skin grafting using artificial dermis

If the injury is large or the skin to be removed is small, an artificial dermis will be used to graft.
In this case, artificial dermis and partial skin grafting are performed at the same time, and the artificial dermis is first applied to the scar area and the skin is grafted on top of it, which can prevent contractures caused by thinning of the skin.

    SST full-thickness skin grafting

A skin regeneration and restoration surgery method that revives your skin to its original state, not a treatment to cover up scars! Skin Seeding Technique (SST) full-thickness skin grafting is a method of transplanting healthy skin into the scar area at a small size of 0.4 mm, so that the transplanted skin spreads to the surrounding area and improves the affected area. In the transplanted skin, platelets extracted from autologous blood are used to help the transplanted normal cells engraft and regenerate into the surrounding area.
SST skin grafting, developed for the purpose of treating vitiligo, is currently being incorporated into various scar treatments.
